Game Keepers Without Game
This winter Spacex will present a solo exhibition by London based British filmmaker Emily Wardill, one of the UK’s most exciting young artists, described by the Guardian as unafraid to ‘put her viewers between a rock and a hard place’.
With her new work, Game Keepers Without Game, Wardill presents a powerful and contemporary feature length movie that tackles difficult social issues without compromise.
The formal structure of the film is based on Pedro Calderón de la Barca’s Life is a Dream (La Vida es Suena) that was written in the 17th Century. The script for Wardill’s new work translates the story into contemporary London; depicting a child banished from the family home at an early age.
The work, which is set to a complex drumming sound track, comprises of still shots of objects that become characters; and a mixture of acted scenes where nothing and nobody touches.
Following its premiere at Spacex this new work will be screened at The Showroom, London. It will also be included in a major solo show at de appel, Amsterdam and at MOCA in Miami in December 2009.
