ESTUARY TRACKS

1 June - 1 August 2004
On 19 June 2004 a group of fifteen 7-11 year olds from SPACEX Artclub (and their grown-ups) took a trip on the Avocet and Riviera Lines with an artist, a musician and a wildlife expert from the RSPB. Their work can still be seen on display at Exeter Central Station.

The journey started in Exeter Central Station on a fine morning, and the group travelled down the west bank of the Estuary to Dawlish Warren observing birds and writing haiku poetry on the way.

On arrival they went down to the beach where they played music and created pictures of birds in the sand with the driftwood, shells, pebbles and seaweed they found. On the way home they journeyed across the river on Jack Rackley’s ferry from Starcross to Exmouth, watching the enormous variety of birds on the Exe Estuary and discussing ideas for the images that you see here.
