Your Artclub Questions Answered:
Q. Does Artclub run every Saturday?
No. Artclub runs 30 weeks of the year. There is no Artclub during summer, Easter, and Christmas holidays or during the weeks when a new exhibition is being installed in the gallery. Please ask for a list of Artclub dates for the year.
Q. Does my child need to be good at art to attend Artclub?
No. Children of all abilities can attend. Enthusiasm is all that’s needed!
Q. Can I stay with my child during Artclub?
Parents of new members are very welcome to stay during their first session at Artclub, but we cannot accommodate parents every week.
Q. Does my child need to attend Artclub every week?
No. You do not need to attend every week or pay in advance.
Q. Who runs Artclub?
Jenny Mellings is an artist who set up Artclub in 1990 and has been leading it ever since. Alongside her commitment to Artclub and Outerspace (our club for older children) Jenny teaches at the University of Plymouth and practices as an artist.
Q. How does Artclub differ from art classes at school?
There is less emphasis on instructional teaching and more on enjoying the experience and process of making artwork. We hope to provide a range of creative activities which teachers find hard to incorporate into the curriculum.
Q. My 7 year old is great at art and very mature - will you make an exception to the minimum age?
Sorry, No. The age limit is non-negotiable.
Q. Do you have a Child Protection Policy?
Yes, Spacex takes child protection very seriously. Our Protection Policy is available upon request. All Artclub staff have a current CRB check.
